A community website serves two audiences at once. Residents want to know what is on, who to call and which local businesses to trust. Supporters want proof that their time and money make a difference. Neighborly is a community Astro theme for neighborhood associations, charities and local groups that need to serve both without turning the navigation into a maze.

It pairs a calm, credible design with the pages a community actually uses: a business directory, events, a resource hub, a gallery and a way to give.

A directory people come back to

Local businesses are content entries with a category, contact details and their own page. Category archives group them for browsing, and a new listing joins the directory as soon as its file is added.

Resources residents actually need

Emergency numbers, collection schedules, local rules and recycling information each get a page of their own, so the questions people ask most have a permanent answer instead of a reply in a group chat.

A clear route to giving

The donate page explains where contributions go, then offers suggested amounts or a custom figure in one short form. Point it at your payment processor, or swap it for your donation platform embed.

Motion that respects the reader

Scroll reveals and smooth scrolling bring the pages to life, and all of it honors the reduced-motion setting, so a reader who has asked for less movement gets a still, fully legible page.

What this theme does not do

It does not process payments. The donation form collects the gift and the donor's details, and payment happens through the processor or platform you connect.

There is no member login, no event ticketing or RSVP system and no site search.

The demo photography is placeholder imagery from Freepik. Replace it before you launch, ideally with real photos of your community.

Who it is for

  • Neighborhood and residents' associations
  • Charities and nonprofits with a local focus
  • Community groups that promote local businesses and events
  • Teams who would rather edit content files than fight a page builder

Customizing it

Listings, events, resources and posts are content entries, so adding to the site means filling in fields. Colors are a short set of tokens, and the style guide page shows every component in one place.

If you would rather not do it yourself, our team can customize this theme for you, from color and content changes through to new pages and custom functionality. Request a theme customization quote.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a CMS to use it?

No. All content ships with the theme and works as it is. Adapters for hosted CMSes are there when you want one.

Can it take donations online?

Yes, once you connect it. The form is ready for your processor, or you can replace it with your donation platform embed.

Can local businesses edit their own listings?

Not in this build. Listings are content entries that your team maintains.

Does it need a server to run?

No. It builds to static files and deploys anywhere that serves a website, including free hosting tiers.
